I don't get it. I really don't. When I go fishing I hope to catch as many fish as possible {and usually do ;-) }, but I also really enjoy seeing other fishermen having success. One thing I want to achieve with Dirty Oar Adventures is to help everyone catch more fish. We all work hard and have limited time to spend doing the things we truly enjoy, why can't we share knowledge and experience to enhance the process for everyone? That said, I am going to make a promise to all my fishing friends: If you have questions, need help on locations, want to learn new techniques, or just want to begin learning how to fish, I will help you. We at Dirty Oar Adventures will help you. While we both will likely be guiding and captaining people paying to catch fish in the future, if anyone wants to learn how we will be willing to teach.
I can't tell you how may trips I've made to the Salmon River that have exposed the nastier side of the hobby/business that fishing has become. People become adversarial over spots, styles, and the simplest forms of fishing etiquette. Let me remind you, they're just fish, there are a LOT of them in the river, they're easy to catch with a modicum of technique, and they're spread heavily throughout the river during the peak of the salmon run. Why on earth would I (or anybody else) regress to the point where an argument or even an altercation would occur over fish that aren't even worth eating? I've seen some disgraceful behavior over the years, none of which was necessary, especially considering fishing is supposed to be fun! That said, if you see the Dirty Oar on the river please don't hesitate to say hello and if you need help please ask! We'll always share info and techniques, a cold drink if you need one, and maybe a crisp fall apple if you're hungry.
You may see us on the lake this spring and summer, too. If you do give us a shout, we'll be happy to let you know what is working that day and hopefully you'll be able to experience some of the success I expect for us! So, no more secret spots, no more secret baits, no more silly behavior and no more ridiculousness over fish. Let's remember to have fun, enjoy the process, and hopefully the results will follow accordingly. Stay tuned here for more fishing reports, more how-to posts, and info pertaining to Dirty Oar gear and the development of our YouTube channel. Until then, tight line to all!
David
