Yup, I know, it has definitely been a while since my last blog post. Sorry constant reader! In the past couple of months I have been busy with setting up DOA Headquarters, which is the lake house I purchased near Oswego, NY. During that time Jimmy and I have also completed outfitting our lake boat, the Dirty Oar II, and have had the chance to work in 3 shake down cruises to get the boat set up to fish Lake Ontario for King Salmon. To that end, the picture below shows the King we caught on our maiden voyage, this first of many we expect to boat in the next few years. This fish was caught on a Northern King NK28 that I had cleaned and taped to make it fish like a new lure! It was a rush to boat a King again after several years away from the lake, especially on a spoon I had customized the evening before. There were definitely some bugs to be worked out, but I think we have the boat set the way we want it and it should be smooth sailing (like how I worked in a nautical metaphor?) from here on out.
The other main project I have been working on is the creation of a line of salmon trolling flies I hope to market on dirtyoaradvedntures.net next year. I have 50 unique recipes that run the gamut of trolling fly colors and styles, with clever names (at least I think so) like the David Bowie (its blue and flashy) to the Overcast which I suspect will be a great fly on cloudy days or in low light conditions. Why 50 recipes? Well, its a nice round number and I'm running out of what I would consider to be unique color combinations. I would like to think I have the most likely fish catching combinations covered along with some that are what I would consider outside the box.
I'm hoping to have a relatively frequent fishing report up on the site beginning next week while we'll be vacationing at the lake for several days and making the trip for several weekends throughout the balance of the Summer. That said, hopefully there will be several pictures of Kings caught on DOA trolling flies and good reports for the area from Oswego to the Salmon River on Lake Ontario. However the fishing plays out, you can expect an honest and accurate report of the fishing including the locations and tackle that are the most productive.
Until next time, tight lines to all!
